Being able to operate in total darkness is a must for any elite military unit. The Al Anbar 9th Battalion, Iraqi special operations forces soldiers practice fast-roping during their helicopter operations. Soldiers spent time improving their abilities on not just how to slide to the ground, but onto dangerous rooftops after dark. This unique exercise was conducted by U.S. Special Operations Forces advisors. "We are pleased with the improvement of training here," said the Al Anbar ISOF commander. "They will be more efficient at their jobs with this training." These improvement exercises will allow the ISOF soldiers to reach those areas that have been difficult in the past. "Al Anbar borders three different countries and those borders are as far as 500 kilometers from [Al Asad]. We must be able to reach those places. Al Anbar has the only force that can go after many targets, so we are happy to have [aerial capabilities]."
