Capt. Gerald Stoermer, company commander for A Company, 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, stands ready as the M1A2 tanks report in prior to a ceremonial firing of the first tank rounds to be fired in Latvia since 1994, at the Adazi Training Area, Latvia, Nov. 6, 2014. Capt. Stoermer and his Soldiers are working with the Latvian army in a joint-training endeavor to increase the effectiveness of the two forces in working together. These activities are part of the U.S. Army Europe-led Operation Atlantic Resolve land force assurance training taking place across Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland to enhance multinational interoperability, strengthen relationships among allied militaries, contribute to regional stability and demonstrate U.S. commitment to NATO.
