U.S. Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Eliot Fiashi and his partner Meky assigned to the Military Working Dog Unit at Camp Lemonier, Djibouti run an obstacle course on April 16. The course is intended to teach the MWD obedience as well as keep them in shape. Petty Officer Fiashi and Meky are assigned to Camp Lemonier and used for explosive/narcotic detection as well as security patrols. The service members of Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa, headquartered in Djibouti, employ an indirect approach to counter violent extremism. Through a strategy of cooperative conflict prevention the task force helps build the internal capacities of countries at risk to prevail against extremists exploiting instability.
