Latvian Lt. Gen. Raimonds Graube, the nation’s chief of defense (right), and Latvian Minister of Defense Raimonds Vējonis (center), present Norwegian Major Otto Lovland with a certificate of appreciation for the Telemark Battalion during a departure ceremony for the battalion on Nov. 20, 2014, at Camp Adazi, Latvia. The Telemark Battalion is made up of professional enlisted soldiers. Most of Norway’s army is comprised of conscripts. A total of 160 members of the battalion participated in activities during Operation Atlantic Resolve, which is a land force assurance training exercise taking place across Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland to enhance multinational interoperability, strengthen relationships among allied militaries, contribute to regional stability and demonstrate U.S. commitment to NATO.
