NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg (left), Latvian Minister of Defense Raimonds Vējonis (center), and Lt. Gen. Raimonds Graube (right), Latvian chief of defense, receive a briefing about a live-fire training exercise Nov. 21, 2014 at Adazi Training Area, Latvia. The exercise consisted of Latvian troops assaulting a village to perform a hostage rescue while U.S. mechanized infantry and armor from 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, provided site security. These activities are part of the U.S. Army Europe-led Operation Atlantic Resolve land force assurance training exercise taking place across Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland to enhance multinational interoperability, strengthen relationships among allied militaries, contribute to regional stability and demonstrate U.S. commitment to NATO.
