The soldier who was sweeping with a metal detector came across a possible IED and then passed hand-and-arm signals back to the other BNDF soldiers on patrol to alert them of the danger. Schaller is an explosive ordnance disposal technician with SPMAGTF-Crisis Response-Africa, training alongside the BNDF, teaching basic infantry tactics, engineering, logistical support, countering-IED, lifesaving techniques and convoy operations to prepare them for an upcoming deployment in support of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).
