Engineman 1st Class Don Barron blows out the candles on his birthday cake given to him as a surprise by the engineering department aboard the littoral combat ship USS Freedom (LCS 1). Freedom is currently participating in Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) Malaysia 2013. More than 1,200 Sailors and Marines are participating in CARAT. CARAT is a series of bilateral military exercises between the U.S. Navy and the armed forces of Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Timor Leste.
