Explosive ordnance disposal technicians’ assigned to Commander, Task Group (CTG) 56.1 use a “special operations” ladder to be recovered by an MH-60S Seahawk helicopter assigned to the “Desert Hawks” of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 26 Det. 1, during a cast and recovery training evolution. CTG 56.1 and HSC-26, Det. 1 are Forward Deployed Naval Force (FDNF) assets. CTG 56.1 conducts mine countermeasures, explosive ordnance disposal, salvage-diving and force protection operations throughout the 5th Fleet area of responsibility. HSC 26, Det. 1 is attached to Commander, Task Force (CTF) 53 to provide combat logistics and search and rescue capabilities throughout the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility.
