Rct. Kayla T. Young, Platoon 4002, Papa Company, 4th Recruit Training Battalion, gets into a firing position Dec. 11, 2014, on Parris Island, S.C. Recruits learn to maneuver their bodies step-by-step to achieve a stable position. Repetition makes it easier for recruits to focus on their marksmanship fundamentals the following week. Young, 18, from Milwaukee, is scheduled to graduate Jan. 23, 2015. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training.
