The amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8) displays the freshly painted gold anchor for retention during a port visit to Duqm, Oman. Makin Island received the Retention Excellence Award for fiscal year 2014. The Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group and the embarked 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit are deployed in support of maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility.
