During a proficiency exercise, Staff Sgt. Amanda Kudlas installs a transmission cable to a high-powered amplifier of the ANUSC-60A Flyaway Tri-band Satellite antenna next to one of two attached 3-in-1 Expandable Shelters. Behind her Tech. Sgt. Alexander Dale organizes RF cables. They are with the 15th Air Mobility Operations Squadron at Travis Air Force Base, Calif. on April 16. The 15th Expeditionary Mobility Task Force relies on cross-utilization to keep the human footprint small and setup as fast as 30-minutes to have the shelter and all support functions running with secure and non-secure satellite communication suites and network computer workstations for initial leadership to begin operations. This extends existing Air Mobility Command infrastructure, through both in-place employment and rapid forward deployment capabilities such as the DACE: Cafe-style Communications Operations which ensures precision and reliability of a Contingency Response Wing's worldwide mission. With on-call capabilities and configured with state-of-the art equipment such as the Deployable Air Mobility Division Communications Element DACE These DACE packages, operated by just five Airmen, provide deployed Airmen satellite capability, land mobile, HF and UHF/VHF radios. Because cross utilization occurs throughout the CRWs their footprint at forward locations is reduced to one-tenth of the personnel and fewer AFSCs are needed than a decade ago. CRWs are a product of 40 years of TALCE experience and lessons learned from OEF / OIF.
