Col. Lance A. McDaniel from Waco, Texas, talks to the Marines of 12th Marine Regiment Jan. 14 after awarding the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal to Sgt. Jacob J. Baumann for potentially saving the life of a local Japanese gentleman. “It requires moral courage to act on behalf of others and not toward you, and Baumann demonstrated the will to take action,” said McDaniel, the commanding officer of 12th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force.
