A hazmat exercise conducted on Marine Corps Logistics Base Barstow, Calif. on Jan. 9 simulated a chlorine leak and a toxic powder found on a victim. Within minutes, an entire technology center, first aid station, and decontamination unit were set up, and two teams wearing personal protective equipment went into the hot zone to rescue "victims" and assess the hazardous chemicals.
