U.S. Army National Guard and U.S. Army Reserve Soldiers train on material handling equipment during Phase II of the 88M Motor Transport Operator Course at the Fort Pickett-based 183rd Regiment, Regional Training Institute, Jan. 28, 2015. The 10 students practiced working with the Palletized Load System, or PLS, and the Load Handling System, or LHS. With the PLS, the 10 Soldiers in the class practiced loading and unloading a 20-foot container from the ground to the truck and back again. On the LHS, they picked up a flat rack from the ground, loaded it onto a trailer and then returned it to the ground. During the training, the transporters also practiced their hand and arm signals to ensure precise movements of the massive trucks. The two-week course is the final portion of the two-phase course and will qualify Soldiers as 88M Motor Transport Operators. (Photo by Staff Sgt. Terra C. Gatti, Virginia Guard Public Affairs)
