A Guatemalan special forces soldier, or “Kaibil,” with the “Grupo Especial de Interdicción y Rescate,” or GEIR fires his pistol during a pistol marksmanship training Jan. 28 in Poptun, Guatemala. GEIR, a quick reaction force supported by members of 7th Special Forces Group under the operational control of Special Operations Command South. SOCSOUTH, based in Homestead, Fla., is responsible for all special operations in the Caribbean, Central and South America in support U.S. Southern Command.
