Sailors assigned to the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan man the rails as they leave their home port San Diego for deployment and wave to family members on the pier. Manning the rails is a U.S. Navy-wide tradition to honor those who were left behind to await the ship's return. Reagan is underway on a routine deployment to the Western Pacific.
