Retired Navy Capt. Ted Davis recounts the events, of May 29, 1959, the day the submarine he commanded, the Tench-class diesel sub USS Grenadier, surfaced a Soviet submarine in the Atlantic Ocean. The event proved for the first time that the Soviet Union was conducting submarine operations in the Atlantic, and was an intelligence coup for the U.S. military.
