Vice Adm. Dixon R. Smith, commander, Navy Installations Command, along with Theresa Phillips, executive director, and Rear Adm. Richard L. Williams, commander, Navy Region Hawaii, visit and learn more about the historical Fort Kamehameha housing area, located on Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. Built in 1916, Fort Kamehameha was originally an Army coastal artillery post. Plans are under consideration to refurbish the area and convert the historical homes to Navy Gateway Inns & Suites.
