Rct. Debra A. Brasher, Platoon 4004, November Company, 4th Recruit Training Battalion, cleans an air vent Jan. 15, 2015, during team week on Parris Island, S.C. Team week, the sixth week of training, allows recruits to work in small groups with minimal supervision and develop leadership skills while also providing a respite from the previous five weeks of constant training. Brasher, 21, from Louisville, Ky., is scheduled to graduate Feb. 13, 2015. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training.
