PEARL HARBOR (Feb. 18, 2015) – Operations Specialist 3rd Class Shaun Jacob, from Sherman Oaks, Calif., views the bay through the “Big Eyes” binoculars aboard amphibious transport dock ship USS San Diego (LPD 22) as the ship departs Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. San Diego, part of the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, and the embarked 11th MEU are returning to home port San Diego following a seven-month maiden deployment to the Western Pacific and the U.S. Central Command areas of operation.
