Mark Benjamin, right, commanding officer of the submarine tender USS Frank Cable (AS 40), explains his ship’s history, capabilities and functions to members of the Japanese House of Councillors (JHC), March 2. The members of the JHC came aboard to acquire knowledge about the role and function of the ships and facilities of Sasebo to aid in discussing issues related to the Japan-U.S. alliance. Frank Cable, forward deployed to the island of Guam, conducts maintenance and support of submarines and surface vessels deployed to the U.S. 7th Fleet area of responsibility and is currently on a scheduled underway period.
