Oregon Air National Guard Col. Kirk “Tick” Pierce, the 173rd Fighter Wing Commander, begins his second mission as a student pilot at Kingsley Field, Ore., March 10, 2015. Pierce, who is a rated F-16 pilot, is now leading the wing and experiencing its core mission first-hand—‘training the best fighter pilots in the world’. He is working through what is called the “T” course, which trains qualified pilots to enter the F-15 fleet from another airframe.
