150311-N-OU290-075 PEARL HARBOR (Mar. 11, 2015) Boatswain’s Mate 2nd Class Lelmand Harris collects brass following a three-volley rifle salute for Pearl-Harbor survivor Chief Fire Controlman (FCC) Leo Shumard. As part of tradition, three expended rounds are then placed in the flag to be presented to a surviving loved one. The ash-spreading ceremony for Shumard was held at the USS Utah Memorial on Ford Island, Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, which is a location reserved for veterans of the Pearl Harbor attack.
