Retired U.S. Army Col. Ben Skardon, 97, a survivor of the Bataan Death March and recipient of two Silver Stars and four Bronze Stars, sheds a tear as he speaks to FOX Carolina reporter Rebecca Atkins about what he endured in WWII. The people behind him are members of Ben's Brigade, a group of admirers and supporters who walk with him every year in the Bataan Memorial Death March at White Sands Missile Range, N.M. This year will be the eighth year Skardon has walked in the march. He is the only survivor who walks in the annual event, which attracts more than 6,500 participants - mostly military. He carries the can of condensed milk in his hand as he walks, because he was able to conceal a can on the real march that he credits with keeping him alive. (Photo by Sgt. Ken Scar)
