Col. Terry Cook, the commander of 3rd Bn., 82nd FA Regt., on Forward Operating Base Warrior, Kirkuk, Iraq. Thornton received this award for his actions after his truck was struck by an RKG-3, a type of anti-tank hand grenade, while he was acting as the trucks gunner, May 23.
