Land (AS 39), operates a lathe to turn down stainless steel during a support job for the Arleigh Burke class guided missile destroyer USS Lassen (DDG-82). The repair and maintenance capabilities Emory S. Land provides to the fleet allows submarines and surface ships to maintain mission readiness and conduct operations in the Asia-Pacific areas of responsibility (AOR). Emory S. Land is a forward-deployed expeditionary submarine tender conducting coordinated tended moorings and afloat maintenance in the U.S. 5th and 7th Fleet AOR.
