A Marine with Battalion Landing Team, 2d Battalion, 5th Marines, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, helps a local man remove an unscathed table from a severely damaged house here during Operation Field Day, a debris-clearing and cleanup project designed to open harbor access and area roads on the isolated island. As Marines cleared the area, they took time to locate personal items which could be salvaged by the local residents. The 31st MEU is participating in Operation Tomodachi at the request of the Japanese government after the 9.0 earthquake and tsunami devastated the northeast coast of Japan.
