The deputy director of the Army National Guard, Maj. Gen. Judd H. Lyons, visited with Alaska National Guardsmen from the 49th Missile Defense Battalion (Ground-based Midcourse Defense) while touring the 800-acre Missile Defense Complex on Fort Greely, Alaska, in April. The Alaska Guardsmen are part of the multi-component 100th Missile Defense Brigade, Colorado Army National Guard, made up of active-component Army and Army National Guard Soldiers in Colorado, California and Alaska tasked with the mission of defending the homeland from ballistic missile attacks.
