The items forever stored in the mast of the guided missile destroyer the USS Jason Dunham include Cpl. Jason Dunham's Purple Heart, a set of his dog tags, a piece of the Kevlar helmet he used to absorb the blast from a grenade in Karabilah, Iraq, April 14, 2004, and the lastletter he sent home to his parents Dan and Deb Dunham. Dunham's actions earned him the Medal of Honor and a place in Marine Corps history.
