First Lt. Christopher Parks, a physician’s assistant, currently assigned to the Warrior Transition Battalion at Fort Hood, Texas, and a native of Lakeside, Calif., straps himself into a chair before competing in the discus event of the Army Trials at Fort Bliss, Texas, April 1. Around 80 wounded or injured Soldiers and veterans competed in the event. Parks’ right leg was amputated in 2014, following an infection from necrotizing fasciitis.
