Drill Instructor Sgt. Shawn T. Warren, Platoon 3028, Mike Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, reads a drill card for his next command during a final drill evaluation April 15, 2015, on Parris Island, S.C. Drill cards list the sequence of commands and are mandatory during the evaluation. The cards are considered part of the uniform and part of a drill movement when read. Warren, 32, is from East Orange, N.J. Mike Company is scheduled to graduate April 24, 2015. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training.
