The U.S. Coast Guard Maritime Security Response Team out of the Chesapeake, Va., area conducts a short notice maritime response training exercise in Mackinaw City, Mich. In the exercise unidentified hostile forces seize a merchant ship. The MSRT conducts hostile ship boarding and retake. The MSRT and local law enforcement wrap up the exercise with a review of the mission with Sheriff Dale Clarmont, Cheboygan County and Col. Thomas Perison, Camp Graying installation commander. This event kicks off Arctic Eagle, a Michigan National Guard training exercise that takes place at Camp Grayling, Rockport State Park and Mackinaw City. Arctic Eagle is a joint service and multi-rnational exercise, based on the U.S. and Denmark National Strategies for the Arctic, addressing the defense of critical infrastructure within the Arctic Circle. The exercise supports the president’s and Department of Defense national strategy for the Arctic and is being conducted in the current constrained fiscal environment without the expenditure of additional dollars.(Michigan National Guard photo by Sgt. 1st Class Helen Miller, relased)
