Coast Guard Petty Officer 1st Class Lonnie Douglas of Anchorage, Alaska, an independent duty health service technician, aboard the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Legare, tests the onboard potable water during routine checks Sunday, July 19. Douglas tests water samples on a Smart 2 Meter and gathers bromine and PH levels to ensure that the water is safe for the crew. The Legare, home ported in Portsmouth, Va., is currently deployed on a three-month long patrol to several countries off the coast of west and central Africa in support of the Africa Partnership Station under the direction of the Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa supporting the U.S. Navy 6th Fleet.This APS mission will focus on three primary areas critical to the development of maritime safety and security maritime professionals, maritime domain awareness and maritime response and enforcement capaility.
