Spc. Nicholas Kromer, heavy Equipment Operator, Company B, 46th Engineer Combat Battalion (Heavy), 225th Engineer Brigade, a native of Manahawkin, N.J., operates the hydraulic excavator filling the HESCOs with dirt July 23. Staff Sgt. Matthew Shane, squad leader, 46th ECB (H), a native of Cazenovia, N.Y., and Spc. Harold Taylor from Montgomery, Ala., heavy equipment operator, guide Kromer to make sure the HESCOs are filled properly. The high wall of HESCOS will then be covered with mounds of dirt and will allow the range to be used for firing .50 caliber machine guns without tearing up the HESCOs. The earthen wall will also protect Soldiers and vehicles from ricochets and allows the range to be used for a wider spectrum of training activities.
