Twelve radio batteries power Gunnery Sgt. Michael Ott’s “Ott Box” during the hours after sunset. Once the sun rises, solar panels, which are connect to this box, simultaneously recharge the radio batteries and power a Tactical Air Navigation system, which helps pilots locate a landing strip even in inclement weather.
