150503-N-EC644-496 ONAGAWA, Japan (May 3, 2015) - Sailors from Misawa Air Base, Japan, help the citizens of Onagawa, Japan, carry a portable Shinto shrine, called a mikoshi, during the city's annual mikoshi festival. Local Shinto priests pray for the city's safety as the mikoshi is carried to surrounding neighborhoods. The city of Onagawa is located in Japan's Miyagi prefecture and was devastated by the earthquake and subsequent tsunami that struck the area March 11, 2011. The citizens of Onagawa began inviting the U.S. Navy to their annual festival as a sign of friendship after the positive impact the U.S. Navy made on their lives during Operation Tomodachi.
