150509-N-GZ228-098 PACIFIC OCEAN (May 9, 2015) A Phalanx Close-in Weapons System (CIWS) fires during a live-fire exercise aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Boxer (LHD 4). Live-fire events are performed daily by ships underway and are designed to improve combat readiness and support the “Warfighting First” tenet as directed by Commander, Naval Surface Forces and the chief of naval operations.
