Every five years, KC-135 Stratotankers from the 121st Air Refueling Wing and Air Force-wide undergo the intense process of programmed depot maintenance at the 564th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, Tinker Air Force Base, Okla. The process, averaging 125 days on base, includes stripping off an aircraft’s paint, removing the engines, dropping the boom, and removing and replacing any parts that are deemed deficient. Operation Team Spirit was implemented as part of the depot maintenance program several years ago and has greatly reduced inspection times at home stations.
