The watch ticks away on the wrist of a jungle warfare instructor as the squad he is supervising begins the endurance course April 19 at the Jungle Warfare Training Center, Okinawa, Japan. The endurance course is the culminating event of jungle warfare training, spanning roughly five miles and laden with 30 obstacles Marine squads must face. The Marines are timed throughout the course, with an average squad finishing in roughly three hours. The Marines are with Company L, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment. The Hawaii-based battalion is attached to 4th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force as part of the unit deployment program. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Sgt.
