A simulated improvised explosive device detonated while Marines with Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment searched the building for simulated enemy personnel and IEDs during a Counter Improvised Explosive Device Course in Holly Ridge, N.C., May 20, 2015. The Marines on the stairwell were then designated as casualties and the rest of their squad had to evacuate them from the danger zone and apply combat lifesaving techniques. (U. S.
