Staff Sgt. Kevin E. Heiderman receives his new 449th Theater Aviation Brigade Soldier Sleeve Insignia from Col. Paul D. Barbee, 449th TAB commander, in a ceremony at Joint Base Balad, Iraq, Aug. 2. Heiderman, an Apex, N.C., native, along with 3,200 other Soldiers will be the first ones to wear this new SSI. Shoulder Sleeve Insignia is a distinct and unique patch worn on the left shoulder to represent the unit that the Soldier is a part of.
