The components of a sonobuoy is displayed in a Boeing P-8 Poseidon maritime surveillance aircraft during a BALTOPS 2015 mission on the flightline of Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany, June 9, 2015. The U.S. Navy deploys buoys from the aircraft, which transmit sound waves through the water upon impact, reporting underwater activity. Approximately 5,600 ground, maritime and air personnel from participating nations will demonstrate air defense, maritime interdiction, anti-subsurface warfare, and amphibious operations in a joint environment to ensure regional security.
