Retired Sgt. 1st Class Leo Smith, a World War II veteran and Florida native, sits with his grandson, Sgt. 1st Class Brian Webb, a rigger assigned to U.S. Special Operations Command headquarters and Florida native as well, during the “D-Day Shoot-Out” event held at the small arms range on MacDill Air Force Base, Fla., on June 5. Smith is one of an elite group of World War II veterans still around and was honored to attend an event which commemorated veterans like himself who fought for their country and sometimes paid the ultimate price for our freedom.
