U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Jeff Updyke, 823rd Expeditionary RED HORSE Squadron structural engineer, out of Hurlburt Field, Fla., and Englewood, Fla. native, works to smooth out the mortar between the bricks that form the septic tank at the Gabriela Mistral school construction site in Ocotes Alto, a village near Trujillo, Honduras, June 16, 2015. The 823rd ERHS will construct a new two-classroom building, which includes bathrooms with working plumbing as part of New Horizons Honduras 2015 training exercise. New Horizons was launched in the 1980s and is an annual joint humanitarian assistance exercise that U.S. Southern Command conducts with a partner nation in Central America, South America or the Caribbean. The exercise improves joint training readiness of U.S. and partner nation civil engineers, medical professionals and support personnel through humanitarian assistance activities.
