During an insurgent attack in 2004, a fierce battle took place along this cat walk leading to the north end of the Al Basra Oil Terminal, located 30 miles of the coast of Iraq in the Persian Gulf. The ABOT is responsible for 80 percent of Iraq's gross domestic product and is essential to Iraq's economic success. United States Navy and Coast Guard personnel are stationed on the terminal to provide security to deter any future threats against the terminal and Iraq's economy.
