SAN DIEGO (May 11, 2015) Senior Chief Aviation Boatswain’s Mate (Handling) Jared Mueller, from Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD 2), hugs his children before Essex leaves for a scheduled deployment as part of the Essex Amphibious Ready Group (ARG). The Essex ARG is comprised of USS Essex, amphibious dock landing ship USS Rushmore (LSD 47), and the amphibious transport dock USS Anchorage (LPD 23), which is embarking upon its maiden deployment.
