150522-N-YM718-043 SOUTH CHINA SEA (May 22, 2015) Military Sealift Command (MSC) Fleet Replenishment Oiler USNS Tippecanoe (T-AO 199) approaches alongside the submarine tender USS Emory S. Land (AS 39) as part of a replenishment at sea (RAS) evolution. The Land received fuel during this RAS and such evolutions allow the U.S. Navy to sustain operations indefinitely while maintaining a constant forward deployed presence. Emory S. Land is a forward deployed expeditionary submarine tender on an extended deployment conducting coordinated tended moorings and afloat maintenance in the U.S. 5th and 7th Fleet AOR.
