Illumination rounds fired by U.S. mortarmen light up the training area as Polish paratroopers from the 6th Airborne Brigade conduct a machine gun range July 28, 2015 at the Nowa Deba Training Area in Poland. During the training mission, the mortarmen from P Troop, 4th Squadron, 2nd Cavalry Regiment fired both 120mm illumination and high-explosive rounds from Stryker vehicles, while the Polish machine gunners used the additional lighting to help identify and engage their targets downrange. The Soldiers are participating in Operation Atlantic Resolve, an ongoing multinational partnership focused on joint training and security cooperation between NATO allies. Led by the mission command element of the 4th Infantry Division and in conjunction with European partner nations, Atlantic Resolve is intended to improve joint operational capability in a range of missions and ensure the continued peace and stability of Europe.
