Cpl. Scott Ostrom, a 21-year-old from Plantation, Fla., checks a map during a security halt while on a patrol through a village in Zaidon, Iraq. Ostrom and his Marines from B Company, 2nd Reconnaissance Battalion, use the night and their night optic devices to gain an edge over insurgents and make contacts with locals who fear being seen talking to Marines. The Recon Marines are on duty with Regimental Combat Team 5.
