A Marine with Transportation Service Company, Combat Logistic Battalion 3, prepares a simulated downed aircraft for movement during a joint Downed Aircraft Recovery Team exercise aboard Marine Corps Training Area Bellows, July 30, 2015. Service members from all branches of the United States military participated in the exercise. The red patch dates back to World War II during the Battle of Guadalcanal to distinguish landing support specialists from infantrymen. Participating in joint operations directly supports the mission of Marine Corps Base Hawaii by providing facilities, programs and services in direct support of units, individuals and families in order to enhance and sustain combat readiness for all operating forces and tenant organizations aboard the installation.
